Luud Clercx

Luud ClercxAfter his studies Anthropology and Economy at the University of Utrecht, Luud Clercx (1956, Dutch) has been living and working in Latin America for over twenty years. 

 

He worked for the Nicaraguan Ministry of Agricultural Development and Land Reform and for the Regional Government of the South Atlantic Autonomous Region, also in Nicaragua. During 1992-1993 and 2000-2006, Luud was researcher and senior consultant at the Centre for Rural Development Studies (CDR), based in Costa Rica, carrying out short term and longer term assignments for multilateral, bilateral and non-governmental development agencies. During his career, Luud built up a broad experience in rural development issues, such as territorial development, business development of organised farmers, microfinance and agricultural economy. 

Since 2006, Luud works for TASTE in the building up of new fair-trade supply chains, productivity improvement and environmental sustainability (water, climate, reduction of agrochemicals).  Luud is one of the architects of the Agrofair South programme, active in the World Banana Forum and responsible for TASTE activities in Latin America and West Africa. Linnett del Carmen Duque Cedeño

Linett Duque CedenoLinett Duque Cedeño (Peruvian) holds a degree in Industrial Technology at the Technology University of Panama and a degree in Matamatics and finanzas at the National University of Panama.


Before starting her work with TASTE as part of the Agrofair South team, she used to work in the field of human resources and corporate responsibility at BOCAS FRUIT COMPANY and afterwards as Project manager of the cooperative COOBANA RL.

 

 


 

José Rafael Madriz Gomez

Jose MadrizJosé Madriz (1957, Costa Rican) is a banana specialist graduated at the prestigious Panamerican Agricultural University “Zamorano” in Honduras.

He worked both for the public sector and big banana corporations in several parts of Costa Rica, Mexico and Ecuador, in different positions: as quality manager, production manager, farm manager, researcher, consultant. José also worked as Secretary, Manager and President of the Board of the Chamber of Plantain Producers in Costa Rica.
In 2009 José joined the Agrofair South team via a long term consultancy contract with the TASTE Foundation. José travels frequently to producer organisations in Panama, Peru, Colombia, Ecuador and Costa Rica, for high level technical assistance, monitoring, and capacity building and carries out feasibility studies for new banana projects in Latin America and Africa. Walter Ugalde Almengor

Walter Ugalde (1965, Costa Rican) is a banana specialist with years of hands-on experience as supervisor, quality manager and farm manager on several banana farms. Walter joined the Agrofair South team in 2009 via a long term consultancy contract with the TASTE Foundation. Since then, Walter has travelled a lot, to Ecuador, Peru, Panama and most of all, the Dominican Republic.

Walter is particularly strong in setting up quality management monitoring, and as such, has gained an important position in the preventive quality assurance of suppliers of Agrofair. He is known as “el duro” (the tough guy), not only in quality management but also in negotiations with collectionists of banana brand stickers; without doubt his collection is among the biggest in the world. José Antonio Dulanto Bejarano

/Jose DulantoJosé Antonio Dulanto Bejarano (Peruvian) is an agronomist with a trajectory of over 12 years in rural development, the last 6 years most of all in the young banana sector in Peru, working from several NGOs and companies as extensionist and technical assistant in quality management and certification requirements. José (“Pepe”) in especially strong in doing research. He played an important role in bringing under control the “black rot” disease during 2007 – 2008, when he was working for Grupo Hualtaco, an export company subsidiary of Agrofair. José established his own consultancy company, Master Profesionales Asociados S.A.C. He participated in the research project of TASTE on “mountain grown” and “savannah grown” bananas, in 2010 – 2011. In 2011 he started with a new assignment of TASTE: setting up a research network around the red rust banana thrips, which represents an increasing threat for the organic certified banana producers in North Peru.
