Project description

This programme brought together three projects to promote production and marketing of organic and fair-trade certified tropical fruit: pineapple from Costa Rica; mango from Mexico and Brazil; and banana from Peru.
In all projects, a different mix of the following activities were carried out:

  • Technical assistance to producers (cultivation)
  • Training, capacity building (cultivation methods, pest control, organic and GlobalGAP standards
  • Research (cultivation methods, soil conservation, biological control pests and diseases)
  • Certifications (GlobalGAP, organic, fairtrade)
  • Quality management
  • Marketing
